Director, Platform Engineering (Azure)

What you will do

• Build, lead, and develop the Platform Engineering organization, including its strategy, roadmap, standards, and operating model.
• Design and evolve the enterprise Microsoft Azure platform across landing zones, governance, identity, networking, security, observability, and resiliency.
• Lead the migration of applications and infrastructure from AWS and on-premises data centers to Azure.
• Establish Infrastructure as Code and automation through Terraform modules, CI/CD pipelines, reference architectures, and standardized deployment patterns.
• Build self-service platform capabilities and golden paths that improve developer productivity and reduce manual provisioning.
• Partner with Network Engineering, SRE, Security, and Application Engineering on connectivity, telemetry, reliability, compliance, incident readiness, and cloud cost management.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, Platform Engineering, systems engineering, or related disciplines, including significant engineering leadership experience.
• Deep technical knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including enterprise architecture, networking, security, governance, resiliency, and platform services.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based engineering workflows.
• Experience leading complex cloud transformation initiatives, hybrid environments, enterprise migrations, or modernization of mission-critical infrastructure.
• Ability to recruit, mentor, and develop engineering leaders and senior technical talent while communicating platform strategy and technology risks at the executive level.

Nice to have

• Experience building an enterprise Platform Engineering organization or Internal Developer Platform.
• Working knowledge of AWS, Azure Landing Zones, the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework, Azure Well-Architected Framework, or Azure Verified Modules.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AKS, GitHub Enterprise, GitLab, GitHub Actions, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or comparable platforms.
• Experience implementing SRE practices, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, resiliency engineering, and incident management.
• Experience with cloud FinOps and regulated environments such as healthcare, SaaS, or financial services.
