Senior Research & Development Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Remote within the United States; position based in San Diego, California, with up to 10% travel.

Salary: $105,600–$158,400 per year, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

• Design and execute biological, physiological, and engineering research studies supporting cardiovascular product development.
• Develop experimental protocols, test methods, and data analysis approaches for technical decision-making.
• Lead technical investigations and troubleshooting to identify root causes and resolve complex product or research challenges.
• Collaborate with engineering, clinical, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing partners throughout the product lifecycle.
• Analyze experimental data and communicate findings through technical reports, presentations, and design documentation.
• Support product verification, optimization, preclinical studies, clinical evaluations, and commercialization activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of relevant R&D experience, or a master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD in a scientific or engineering discipline.
• Experience designing, executing, and analyzing scientific or engineering studies in an R&D environment.
• Experience preparing technical documentation, reports, and data-driven recommendations.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams on research, product development, or technology initiatives.
• Unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required at hire and throughout employment; sponsorship is not available for roles below Principal level.
• Bachelor’s degrees earned outside the United States must satisfy the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A).

Nice to have

• Experience in medical devices, biotechnology, life sciences, or healthcare.
• Experience with regulated product development under a quality management system.
• Knowledge of cardiovascular therapies, cardiac surgery technologies, or related clinical applications.
• Experience with statistical analysis, experimental design, and complex datasets.
• Experience contributing to the development and commercialization of new technologies or products.
