Platform Engineer (Compute Capacity)

What you will do

• Maintain the compute capacity plan across regions and instance families, including headroom targets and cost tradeoffs.
• Build automation for reservation acquisition, capacity top-ups, fleet reconciliation, and drift detection.
• Extend infrastructure as code for capacity-related provisioning.
• Develop metrics and trusted alerting for saturation, reservation coverage, idle buffer, forecast error, provisioning latency, quotas, and headroom.
• Support demand intake for large customer commitments, launches, migrations, and new regions.
• Contribute to right-sizing, instance-family migrations, autoscaling, workload consolidation, cost reduction, and capacity incident follow-through.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, SRE, platform, or capacity engineering, ideally at SaaS or cloud infrastructure scale.
• Production software engineering experience owning and operating services using TypeScript, Python, or Go.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, including Pulumi or Terraform.
• Experience building observability for owned systems, including metrics and alerting with Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or similar tools.
• Working knowledge of AWS EC2 instance families and generations, purchase options, capacity reservations, and quota mechanics.
• Financial fluency in reservation economics and the tradeoffs between coverage, utilization, and cost; clear communication with engineering and finance stakeholders.
