TL;DR
Robotics Algorithm Engineer (Optimization & Packing) (3D packing, computational geometry, robotics): Developing production algorithms for 3D bin packing, container loading, item placement, and space optimization in real-world industrial robotic systems with an accent on geometric reasoning, collision detection, and operational constraints. Focus on designing high-performance heuristics and optimization solvers, integrating packing logic with real-time motion planning and digital twins, and deploying algorithms in high-throughput logistics environments.

Location: On-site at MJHQ, 3-8-5 Tatsumi, Koto-Ku, Tokyo 135-0053, Japan

Work hours: 8:45–17:45 with a 60-minute break.

What you will do

  • Design and implement algorithms for 3D bin packing, container and trailer loading, item placement, and space optimization.
  • Develop spatial reasoning, 3D geometry, collision detection, and geometric data structures for crates, pallets, and containers.
  • Integrate packing logic with hirify.globalOS real-time motion planning and digital-twin workflows.
  • Collaborate with robotics, perception, systems, operations, product management, and customers to address physical and operational constraints.
  • Profile, test, and optimize algorithms for real-time or near-real-time performance in high-throughput logistics environments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and C++.
  • Deep understanding of algorithms, computational geometry, spatial data structures, packing problems, or operations research.
  • Experience with optimization frameworks or custom heuristics and solvers, including constraint or combinatorial optimization.
  • Experience with mixed-SKU palletizing, container loading or unloading, or dynamic storage and packing systems.
  • Professional working proficiency in English and availability for on-site work in Tokyo, Japan.

Nice to have

  • Experience in logistics, warehouse automation, robotics, or supply chain systems.
  • Familiarity with robotic control pipelines, motion-planning frameworks, or autonomous-system integration.
  • Experience with 3D visualization tools or simulation frameworks.
