TL;DR
Senior Data Scientist (AI): Create and productionise AI products and advanced machine learning models on large Big Data platforms with an accent on recommendation systems, statistical modelling, experimentation, and scalable AWS deployment. Focus on building distributed PySpark pipelines, operating MLOps and LLMOps architectures, evaluating campaign outcomes, and mentoring data scientists.

What you will do
- Create AI and intelligent automation products that deliver new services for Vodacom and its stakeholders.
- Develop, validate, optimise, and productionise advanced machine learning models using large structured and unstructured datasets.
- Build machine learning solutions on Big Data platforms and automate, integrate, deploy, and monitor AI workloads with Big Data Engineering teams.
- Track model performance and business outcomes, including campaign uplift, incremental revenue, and return on investment, and communicate insights through reporting and visualisations.
- Design and evaluate controlled experiments and A/B tests for customer campaigns, translating findings into targeting and commercial recommendations.
- Collaborate with lead and principal data scientists, contribute to AI capability across , present results, and mentor data scientists.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related quantitative field.
- 4–6 years of relevant experience in Big Data and Data Science.
- Hands-on experience building and operating machine learning solutions on AWS, including SageMaker, Glue, Athena, Lambda, S3, and OpenSearch.
- Strong SQL and PySpark skills, including distributed Spark pipeline development, optimisation, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Python, R, or Java and experience with machine learning frameworks such as H2O, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Knowledge of MLOps and LLMOps, batch and real-time model architectures, recommendation systems, visualisation tools, experimentation, and real-time decisioning.
