Oifigeach Gaeilge (Irish Language Officer)

Location: Remote, but the successful candidate must be based on the island of Ireland and attend occasional in-person outreach activities, events, and logistics nationally and internationally.

Salary: €35,000 per annum, payable fortnightly; grant-funded and renewable subject to funding.

hirify.global supports open knowledge and the development of Irish-language content and communities across Wikimedia projects.

What you will do

• Research, write, edit, and curate Irish-language content for Wikimedia projects, especially An Vicipéid.
• Deliver structured online and in-person training workshops for schools, youth groups, universities, and community organisations.
• Support Wikipedia editors, assist new contributors, and participate in organising community edit-a-thons and events.
• Support GLAM partnerships with galleries, libraries, archives, and museums.
• Create Irish-language copy for blogs, social media, and organisational communications.
• Implement and develop strategic plans for Irish-language outreach, promotion, and integration.

Requirements

• Strong spoken and written Irish, including familiarity with standardised written Irish.
• Strong IT skills and experience with Google Workspace.
• Clear communication skills for working with students, communities, and institutional partners.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment; residence on the island of Ireland is required.
• Genuine interest in open knowledge and promoting the Irish language in the digital space.

Nice to have

• Experience editing Vicipéid or another Wikimedia project.
• Knowledge of language rights, minority-language communities, or the Irish-language sector.
• Technical skills such as coding, Wiki markup, Wikidata, or Python.
• Teaching, training, or presentation experience.
• Experience in the GLAM, nonprofit, or open-source sector; a third-level qualification in Irish or a related field.
