Lead Software Engineer (Power Systems)

Location: Pullman, Washington, United States; onsite role with occasional travel

Salary: $121,000–$181,500 annually

What you will do

• Design and build features that automate power system event analysis, including fault location algorithms, waveform visualization, and reporting.
• Lead technical design discussions, prepare design documents, and make architectural decisions balancing performance, maintainability, and usability.
• Mentor developers on software design patterns and power system domain concepts.
• Collaborate with protection engineers and UX designers to turn complex workflows into intuitive software experiences.
• Lead project planning and support customers with solution design, configuration, validation, and deployment.
• Investigate and resolve challenging technical issues while researching and developing new solutions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated technical leadership.
• Working knowledge of electric power systems or transferable industry experience.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages and experience building desktop or web applications with complex data processing.
• Experience writing clean, testable code and applying automated testing, continuous integration, and iterative delivery.
• Experience leading or mentoring developers and communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience; satisfactory background check and negative drug test required.

Nice to have

• Domain knowledge of protection and control, automation, and data analytics in electric power systems.
• Full-stack development experience.
• Familiarity with containerization and microservice architectures.
• Experience applying AI-assisted development tools or integrating AI/ML capabilities into product features.
• Experience in electrical utilities, consulting, or system integration; PE license or familiarity with project tracking software.
