Senior Engineer, Security Products (Backend)

Location: On-site in Sunnyvale, California, or New York, New York; no remote work option.

Salary: $182,000–$242,000 base salary per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable backend services using REST and/or gRPC APIs.
• Define API contracts, service boundaries, data models, and integration patterns.
• Own services across architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, observability, on-call support, and continuous improvement.
• Improve reliability through error handling, retries, timeouts, idempotency, back-pressure, capacity planning, and graceful degradation.
• Build integrations with customer on-premises and cloud environments, identity providers, key-management services, HSMs, SIEMs, and access-control systems.
• Participate in design reviews, incident response, cross-functional delivery, mentoring, and technical direction.

Requirements

• Strong professional experience building and operating production backend services.
• Experience designing RESTful and/or gRPC APIs and understanding distributed-systems principles.
• Fluency in Go, Java, C++ or Python, with willingness to work primarily in Go.
• Experience with relational or distributed data stores, asynchronous processing, service integrations, and comprehensive testing.
• Clear technical communication and sound judgment around sensitive data, authorization, trust boundaries, and security failure modes.
• Must meet applicable U.S. export-control access requirements, including U.S. person status or eligibility for required authorization.

Nice to have

• Authorization systems, encryption, key management, HSMs, KMIP, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, workload identity, or federation.
• SCIM, enterprise identity integrations, SSO, or lifecycle management.
• SRE, incident response, observability, load testing, capacity modeling, or performance analysis.
• Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, infrastructure as code, or platform engineering.
• Experience building security products for enterprise or regulated customers and integrating cloud services with customer-managed infrastructure.
