Director of Alumni Relations

What you will do

• Develop and implement a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy aligned with university priorities and advancement goals.
• Plan and lead alumni events, traditions, networking programs, awards, reunions, athletics rallies, and student-to-alumni initiatives.
• Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Alumni Council, supporting governance, leadership development, committee work, and volunteer recruitment.
• Collaborate with development, annual giving, communications, and university leadership teams on campaigns, stewardship, donor engagement, and alumni outreach.
• Manage budgets, vendors, sponsorship opportunities, operational plans, engagement metrics, records, and reporting.
• Supervise volunteers and student employees as applicable.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
• Ten years of related experience in alumni relations or fundraising.
• Familiarity with annual giving principles and practices.
• Demonstrated success planning and executing complex events and engagement programs.
• Strong interpersonal, written, verbal communication, organizational, project management, and budget management skills.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in an applicable field.
• Experience with alumni boards, councils, advisory groups, or volunteer leadership organizations.
• Experience launching, revitalizing, or growing alumni volunteer structures and advisory councils.
• Experience with CRM and alumni engagement platforms.
• Experience serving first-generation student and alumni populations or working within a public university.
