East Texas A&M University’s Ted and Donna Lyon Center for Gamebird Research conducts research focused on sustainable gamebird populations, professional training, and the gamebird industry.
What you will do
- Manage the daily operation of the Reyna Laboratory for Upland Gamebirds.
- Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory technicians.
- Oversee laboratory equipment operation, maintenance, calibration, repair, inventory, and supply ordering.
- Maintain safety, animal-use, biosecurity, quality-control, and regulatory compliance protocols.
- Coordinate research projects, provide technical support for experiments, and assist with data analysis.
- Handle project management, scheduling, reporting, strategic planning, and collaboration with departments, researchers, clients, donors, and external partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field.
- At least two years of related professional laboratory experience, including leadership or supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures, analytical techniques such as HPLC and ELISA, and management and supervision principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, project management, problem-solving, and compliance skills.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, work outdoors for extended periods, and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Availability for occasional weekends or work outside normal hours, with possible exposure to animal dander, heat, humidity, sunlight, animal byproducts, precipitation, and mud.
Nice to have
- Experience managing a quail, upland gamebird, or avian research laboratory.
- Experience with laboratory safety, biosecurity, conservation, gamebird research, higher education, or nonprofit organizations.
- Experience producing research results and supervising staff.
- Interest in working with the public, donors, agencies, and corporate or nonprofit partners.
