Senior Legal Counsel - Real Estate

Location: Hybrid role based at BJ's Club Support Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts; in-office Tuesday through Thursday and remote Monday and Friday.

Salary: $175,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do

• Serve as lead real estate leasing and transaction counsel for retail locations, distribution centers, gas stations, and other company properties.
• Negotiate and draft leases, purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, reciprocal easement agreements, ground leases, construction agreements, subleases, SNDAs, and related documents.
• Advise internal clients on lease provisions, operational issues, signage, construction, access agreements, landlord-tenant disputes, repairs, and maintenance.
• Analyze title and surveys and identify environmental risks and potential liabilities.
• Work with outside counsel and assist with real estate-related litigation.
• Support updates to real estate forms and assist local land use counsel with zoning, permitting, incentives, and related matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and law degree from a top college or university.
• 8–10 years of experience in a top law firm and/or in-house legal environment.
• Significant deal counsel experience, including leasing and development work for retail organizations.
• Familiarity with reciprocal easement agreements, development agreements, joint ventures, condominiums, bankruptcy, condemnation, sale-leasebacks, assignments, and environmental matters.
• Strong big-box retail negotiation experience with national and East Coast regional shopping center developers and landlords.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects independently, collaborate effectively, and adapt to emerging legal issues.

Nice to have

• Experience in construction law and familiarity with construction contracts.
