SSD Firmware Development Engineer Intern (NAND): Designing and implementing firmware for the Flash Interface Layer of SSDs, integrating modules, and debugging FPGA/ASIC environments with an accent on NAND flash operations, embedded controllers, and device drivers. Focus on developing kernel-level firmware, solving hardware and software issues, and collaborating with SoC, hardware, and validation teams.

Location: San Jose, United States

Compensation: $35–$45 per hour

What you will do

  • Design and implement firmware for the Flash Interface Layer of SSDs.
  • Integrate firmware with other modules and resolve software issues.
  • Debug and fix defects in FPGA and ASIC environments.
  • Collaborate with SoC, hardware, and validation teams.
  • Contribute proactively to teamwork, code reviews, and product-quality deliverables.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of NAND flash commands and operations, plus experience developing NAND management algorithms or error-control coding.
  • Proficiency in C or C++ and experience designing firmware for embedded controllers or SSD/NAND controllers.
  • Experience with kernel-level firmware, BSPs, device drivers, real-time systems, and reading hardware datasheets.
  • Hands-on experience with debugging tools such as JTAG or an in-circuit emulator.
  • Strong communication, documentation, analytical problem-solving, and code and design review skills.

Nice to have

  • Understanding of ARM architecture and experience with ARM assembly.
  • Understanding of the Linux kernel, device drivers, and the storage software stack.
