TL;DR
Structures Engineering Intern (Aerospace) (Flight Hardware/CAD): Designing, building, testing, and transitioning structural flight hardware for the Mk 2.3 airframe with an accent on CAD modeling, design-for-manufacturing, tooling, and vehicle integration. Focus on developing repeatable production processes, executing structural validation tests, and supporting flight readiness across design, manufacturing, and test teams.

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States; on-site. Travel to test sites, other offices, and partner locations may be required.

Salary: $25–$33 per hour, with final compensation based on degree level.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and test flight and test hardware for the Mk 2.3 airframe.
  • Translate structural concepts into detailed CAD models, including geometry refinement, material selection, and design-for-manufacturing considerations.
  • Support the transition of structural components from prototype builds to repeatable production.
  • Develop build processes, tooling concepts, integration plans, and test procedures for structural hardware.
  • Identify design simplification and manufacturability improvements, including reducing part count and improving assembly flow.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and test teams to support vehicle integration and program milestones.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university as a third- or fourth-year undergraduate student or as a Master's or Ph.D. student.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through internships, studies, or projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles and interest in vehicle hardware.
  • Comfort with CAD, test equipment, and hand tools; familiarity with machining, welding, forming, and GD&T fundamentals.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 and eligibility to access information and items subject to U.S. export controls.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing and releasing flight hardware.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter and NX.
  • Leadership experience on project teams or in mentorship roles.
  • Experience building something that has flown or failed in testing.
