TL;DR
PhD Scholarship: Responsible Infrastructure for Agentic AI Systems (Agentic AI/Trustworthy AI): Developing methods to improve the reliability, accountability, and resilience of shared runtime components for autonomous and multi-agent AI systems with an accent on agent memory, shared state, tool-use workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, context management, and runtime monitoring. Focus on designing responsible infrastructure, evaluating trustworthy AI systems, and conducting independent research with academic, industry, and interdisciplinary partners.

Location: Primarily based at hirify.global Gold Coast in Southport, Australia; work across other university locations may be required.

Scholarship stipend: AUD 35,656 per year, indexed, for up to three years of full-time study.

hirify.global is a multi-campus university hosting the TrustAGI research lab within its School of Information and Communication Technology.

What you will do

  • Conduct PhD research into the responsible design, evaluation, and governance of infrastructure for agentic AI systems.
  • Develop methods to improve the reliability, accountability, and resilience of shared runtime components.
  • Research agent memory, shared state, tool-use workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, and context management.
  • Develop and evaluate runtime monitoring mechanisms for autonomous and multi-agent AI systems.
  • Collaborate with academic researchers, industry partners, and interdisciplinary stakeholders through an ARC Linkage Project.

Requirements

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree with first-class honours equivalent, or a research-based Master’s degree at AQF Level 9, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Strong background in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong academic record, normally with a GPA above 85/100 or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct independent research.
  • International applicants must meet hirify.global’s English proficiency requirements, including IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 or an accepted equivalent.
  • Expressions of interest are open to domestic and international applicants.

Nice to have

  • Prior research experience, research project involvement, or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience in AI, machine learning, software systems, multi-agent systems, or related areas.
  • Research interest in agentic AI, trustworthy AI, intelligent software infrastructure, and responsible technology development.
