TL;DR
Spacecraft Operations Engineer II (Spacecraft Operations and Ground Software): Operating and improving a fleet of satellites across commercial and government missions with an accent on automation, spacecraft health, and mission execution. Focus on developing ground software and flight sequences, validating spacecraft systems through simulation and integrated tests, and managing fault detection, isolation, and recovery.

Location: Onsite at hirify.global headquarters in Long Beach, California, United States

Base salary: $94,400–$129,800 USD annually. Total compensation including equity: $104,475–$147,425 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Operate and maintain the health, safety, and performance of satellite fleets through commissioning, orbit raising, routine operations, and potential re-entry.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain ground software, operational scripts, flight software sequences, telemetry configurations, and FDIR processes.
  • Maintain continuous integration and testing for operational code, and develop test methods and data analysis.
  • Validate spacecraft behavior using flatsat, hardware-in-the-loop, and other spacecraft simulation tools.
  • Support AIT teams during spacecraft integration tests, including TVAC, propulsion stack, and DITL activities.
  • Develop mission requirements, interface specifications, CONOPS, design documentation, and verification activities while coordinating with engineering teams in Long Beach and Auckland.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in software, computer, electrical, aerospace, mechanical, or another technical engineering discipline.
  • At least 2 years of direct experience in space mission design, satellite subsystems, ground systems, spacecraft command and control, or spacecraft operations.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, including attitude determination and control, electrical power, space-ground communications, command and data handling, and thermal control.
  • Understanding of the space environment, orbital mechanics, and rigid-body dynamics.
  • Software development experience in Python, Ruby, C, C++, or another high-level language.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance and meet U.S. ITAR work-authorization requirements.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in engineering.
  • Experience with spacecraft operations, satellite system design, or satellite ground systems.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, software-in-the-loop, or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Active TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance.
