TL;DR
Structures/Mechanical Engineering Intern (Aerospace) (aircraft structures and flight hardware): Designing, building, integrating, and testing mechanical subassemblies for next-generation aircraft systems with an accent on CAD modeling, fabrication, and hardware development. Focus on engineering analysis, rapid design iteration, troubleshooting prototype hardware, and collaborating across structures, manufacturing, avionics, and test teams.

What you will do

  • Design and develop flight hardware and mechanical subassemblies, including control surfaces, landing gear doors, and avionics trays.
  • Create CAD models and engineering drawings, release hardware, and update designs.
  • Perform hand calculations and basic engineering analysis to support design decisions.
  • Build, integrate, troubleshoot, and test prototype and flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with structures, mechanical, manufacturing, avionics, and test teams.
  • Support design reviews, test planning, documentation, and rapid hardware iteration.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; applicants may be third- or fourth-year undergraduates or students in a Master's or Ph.D. program.
  • Strong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, mechanical design, and engineering first principles.
  • Hands-on hardware experience through internships, research, laboratories, personal projects, FSAE, rocketry, robotics, or similar activities.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools and comfort using physical hardware, hand tools, and test equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced build environment.
  • Must satisfy U.S. export-control requirements as a U.S. person or otherwise be eligible for deemed export licensing; GPA of 3.0 or above required.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing and releasing flight hardware.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter and NX.
  • Experience building hardware that has flown or failed during testing.
