Field Technician III (Telecommunications)

Location: Ashburn, Virginia, United States; based at the Ashburn office and working in the field. Candidates should reside within one hour of Ashburn.

Salary: $23.41–$36.00 USD per hour, with shift differential pay available for evening and overnight hours.

What you will do

• Install, commission, test, decommission, troubleshoot, and maintain optical transmission systems and telecommunications equipment.
• Perform OTDR, Ethernet, BER, SONET, circuit, optical, electrical, and power acceptance testing.
• Support network, customer service, critical infrastructure, outside plant, and fiber optic operations.
• Conduct site surveys, inspect facilities and construction sites, and complete maintenance, audit, and service documentation.
• Identify potential network issues, perform preventative maintenance, and resolve problems affecting network performance and customer service.
• Participate in project meetings, cross-functional initiatives, on-call dispatch, and provide technical guidance to other employees.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least four years of telecommunications field experience installing, testing, or turning up SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, or Ethernet equipment.
• Experience with optical power meters, digital multimeters, fiber identifiers, and fiber scopes.
• Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds, work outdoors in varied conditions, and travel overnight when required.
• State-issued driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, legal identification, and ability to pass background check requirements.
• Basic telecommunications or industry safety training and ability to interpret OSHA, safety, MOP, CLR/DLR, process, and vendor documentation.

Nice to have

• OTDR and DC power experience.
• Experience with RFC2544, RFC6349 Truespeed, iPerf, Y.1564, and circuit testing.
• Real ID and security clearance.
