(USA) Staff, Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite at the Crossman Service Building home office

Annual salary: $143,000–$286,000, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Develop and customize deep learning-based generative and multimodal models for conversational shopping experiences.
• Apply machine learning, statistical, and optimization techniques to conversational AI projects.
• Build, validate, test, and deploy language models that explain or predict behavior and solve business and engineering problems.
• Standardize scalable, highly available AI systems according to operational best practices.
• Create visuals and reports communicating model results and insights to business stakeholders.
• Contribute to patents, publications, conference presentations, and external research collaboration.

Requirements

• Expertise in NLP, large language models, generative and multimodal AI, prompt optimization, fine-tuning, efficient deployment, and agentic system design and evaluation.
• Strong Python and large-scale data experience.
• Ability to independently drive complex AI initiatives from requirements through production.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus 4 years of analytics experience, or a master’s degree plus 2 years of experience, or 6 years of experience in an analytics or related field.
• Strong technical depth, experimentation and optimization skills, cross-functional collaboration, and communication abilities.

Nice to have

• Research background in deep learning or AI, including publications and academic contributions.
• Experience with Spark, Scala, R, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or Torch.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
• PhD in machine learning, computer science, information technology, operations research, statistics, or applied mathematics.
