Senior Automation Engineer (SCADA)

Location: Pullman, Washington, United States; onsite at the SEL corporate office

Salary: $160,600–$214,100 annually for the Senior Engineer level. A Development Lead Engineer level may be considered at $136,100–$181,500 annually.

What you will do

• Design, develop, configure, integrate, and support SCADA systems for utility, industrial, and critical infrastructure environments.
• Develop HMI applications, operational dashboards, alarm management strategies, historian reports, and real-time monitoring tools.
• Integrate RTUs, PLCs, IEDs, and other field devices using industrial communication protocols.
• Design network architectures across Ethernet, serial, fiber optic, radio, and wide-area communication systems.
• Perform system integration, validation, troubleshooting, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and corrective actions.
• Provide technical specifications, documentation, training, customer consultation, and support while promoting OT cybersecurity practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, automation engineering, control systems engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
• Typically 10+ years of experience with SCADA, industrial control, automation, or utility OT environments.
• Experience with SCADA architecture, HMI development, historian systems, alarm management, and troubleshooting RTUs, PLCs, IEDs, and industrial communications.
• Working knowledge of DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, IEC 60870, OPC UA, and ICCP/TASE.2.
• Experience with Ethernet networks, TCP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
• Strong root cause analysis, technical presentation, documentation, and communication skills; willingness to travel as required.

Nice to have

• Experience with utility SCADA, EMS, DMS, OMS, or ADMS platforms and related SCADA products.
• Knowledge of electric power systems, substations, protective relays, historian reporting, and data analytics platforms.
• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, customer service, technical support, or consulting.
• Knowledge of NERC CIP, NIST SP 800-82, ISA/IEC 62443, or other OT cybersecurity standards.
