Location: Hybrid in Oakland, California; employees must report to the assigned office at least two or three days per week, with remaining days worked remotely based on business needs.
Salary: $129,000–$207,000 annually, with a Bay Area midpoint of $168,000. The position is also eligible for discretionary incentive compensation.

What you will do
- Apply data science, machine learning, operations research, engineering, and economic modeling to complex energy systems.
- Design, develop, maintain, and oversee sophisticated quantitative models, algorithms, and decision-support tools.
- Extract, transform, and load data from diverse internal and external sources.
- Translate technical analyses into executive-level recommendations for strategy, policy, financial planning, procurement, and regulatory decisions.
- Collaborate with senior leaders, internal teams, external stakeholders, and industry organizations on complex analytical challenges and standards.
- Prepare testimony, support expert-witness activities, assess third-party analyses, and contribute to industry best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, machine learning, computer science, physics, econometrics, economics, engineering, mathematics, applied sciences, statistics, business, or an equivalent field.
- At least 6 years of job-related experience, or 5 years with a master’s degree, or 3 years with a doctorate.
- Expertise in quantitative energy-system modeling and analysis frameworks.
- Knowledge of data science, machine learning, operations research, engineering, or economics modeling tools and programming languages.
- Ability to independently design innovative analyses, lead complex cross-functional projects, and communicate findings clearly to varied audiences.
- Availability to work in the hybrid Oakland office arrangement is required.
