Biomechanical Engineer I (Biomechanics): Supporting injury biomechanics research and RDT&E laboratory and field studies with an accent on experimental design, instrumentation, data acquisition, and biomechanical analysis. Focus on designing test fixtures and equipment, analyzing kinematic and physiologic responses, conducting PMHS and volunteer research, and maintaining laboratory safety and data integrity.
Location: Fort Rucker, Alabama, United States; onsite laboratory and field work with travel CONUS and OCONUS as required
Salary: USD $70,000–$80,000 per year

What you will do
- Design, prepare, execute, and analyze injury biomechanics studies and experiments.
- Support laboratory and field RDT&E studies for the Injury Biomechanics and Protection Group at USAARL.
- Develop experimental fixtures, test equipment, data acquisition systems, and testing procedures.
- Collect and analyze biomechanical, kinematic, and physiologic response data using research instrumentation.
- Conduct hands-on PMHS and volunteer research while supporting quality assurance and scientific publications.
- Maintain SOPs, laboratory records, data integrity, safety procedures, and biosafety compliance.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- Knowledge of mechanical design, biomedical experimentation, data acquisition, and data analysis.
- Experience with programming, experimental testing, instrumentation, kinematic analysis, video motion capture, and MATLAB.
- Experience with at least two relevant areas or tools, such as injury biomechanics, PMHS research, numerical analysis, blast or impact testing, mechanical testing devices, ATDs, high-speed imaging, instrumentation, or high-rate data acquisition.
- Strong communication, attention to detail, independence, collaboration, and commitment to data integrity and safety compliance.

- Experience supporting DoD or federal research laboratories.
- Prior RDT&E program experience.
- Experience supporting publication of scientific research findings.
