Head of Business Controls (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid policy requiring staff to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time

Annual salary: $300,000–$385,000 USD

What you will do

• Lead the end-to-end financial audit and SOX 404 compliance program, including planning, scoping, testing, remediation, and reporting.
• Design, implement, and monitor scalable controls across revenue recognition, financial close, accounts payable and receivable, and treasury operations.
• Build automated compliance solutions using AI, continuous monitoring, and intelligent anomaly detection.
• Assess business processes, financial systems, ERP migrations, integrations, control gaps, and remediation needs.
• Partner with Finance, Accounting, Operations, Business teams, the Controller, CFO, and Chief Accounting Officer to strengthen internal controls.
• Coordinate external auditor requests, walkthroughs, testing schedules, reliance strategies, and reporting to leadership, the Board, and Audit Committee.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on financial audit and SOX compliance experience, preferably across Big Four and in-house internal audit or SOX leadership roles.
• Experience establishing or scaling financial audit and SOX programs at pre-IPO or newly public companies.
• Deep knowledge of business process controls, financial reporting, US GAAP, and SEC reporting requirements.
• Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Ability to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time in the San Francisco hybrid setup.

Nice to have

• CPA, CIA, CISA, or a similar certification.
• Experience applying AI or ML to financial audit, compliance, or risk management.
• Knowledge of revenue recognition under ASC 606, lease accounting under ASC 842, financial data governance, ICFR, and SEC disclosures.
• Experience at a high-growth AI or technology company.
