What you will do

• Support surgeons during cardiac and other operating room procedures under the supervision of the surgical team.
• Prepare and organize surgical instruments, supplies, equipment, and operating room setups.
• Maintain aseptic technique during setup, patient draping, and procedures.
• Scrub surgical cases, perform surgical counts, and manage intraoperative medications and specimens according to hospital policy.
• Assist with patient positioning, movement, transportation, decontamination, and room turnover.
• Participate in quality improvement, continuing education, emergency preparedness, and orientation of new personnel.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Tech Program, military surgical technology training, or qualifying prior surgical technologist employment before July 1, 2013.
• Less than 12 months of healthcare experience; this is an entry-level position.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• New graduates must obtain the required credential within 12 months of graduation.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique, infection prevention, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, pharmacology, surgical equipment, and patient care.
