Plant Utilities Technician (Nights)

Location: Rensselaer, New York, United States; onsite. Working shift: Wednesday–Saturday, 2:00pm–12:30am. Training shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm for approximately three months.

Salary: $24.76–$52.88 per hour.

What you will do

• Start up, operate, monitor, maintain, and shut down plant utility systems and equipment.
• Maintain high-pressure steam and hot water boilers, controls, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, and associated equipment.
• Maintain pretreatment water, condensate return, natural gas, potable and tepid water, and wastewater systems.
• Monitor and respond to Building Automation System alarm notifications.
• Perform monthly preventive maintenance and maintain equipment documentation and records.
• Plan and coordinate contractors, vendors, repairs, maintenance schedules, and utility work events with Facilities Management and other departments.

Requirements

• AAS degree, preferably in engineering or construction technologies, or equivalent experience.
• Plant Utilities Technician II: 2+ years of related experience, or HSD/GED with 5+ years of related experience.
• Plant Utilities Technician III: 5+ years of related experience, or HSD/GED with 8+ years of related experience.
• Plant Utilities Technician IV: 8+ years of related experience, or HSD/GED with 12+ years of related experience.
• Knowledge of high-pressure boilers and waste neutralization; ability to work with chemicals and steam.
• Ability to participate in a rotational on-call schedule and perform physical work for shifts of up to 10 hours, including lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Prior experience maintaining and operating a large-scale utilities plant.
