Field Technician II - Ashburn, VA (Telecommunications)

Location: Ashburn, VA; based out of the Ashburn office and working in the field. Candidates should reside within 1 hour of Ashburn.

Salary: $19.52–$30.00 USD per hour, with shift differential pay available for evening and overnight hours.

What you will do

• Install, commission, test, troubleshoot, and maintain SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, and Ethernet telecommunications equipment.
• Perform OTDR, Ethernet, BER, SONET, circuit, optical, electrical, and power testing.
• Complete network and customer-service installations, decommissioning, troubleshooting, and preventive or demand maintenance.
• Conduct site surveys, fiber-panel audits, power audits, documentation, and closeout reporting.
• Inspect outside plant facilities, outdoor cabinets, buried cable, construction sites, and network infrastructure in varied weather and terrain.
• Participate in an on-call rotation, support after-hours activity, and provide guidance to less experienced Field Technicians.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of telecommunications field experience.
• Experience installing, testing, or turning up telecommunications equipment, including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, or Ethernet systems.
• Familiarity with optical power meters, digital multimeters, fiber identifiers, and fiber scopes.
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds and work outdoors in varied environments.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, legal identification, and ability to pass background checks.
• Ability to read safety, process, procedure, and vendor documentation and work effectively independently and in a team.

Nice to have

• OTDR, DC power, circuit testing, RFC2544, RFC6349 Truespeed, iPerf, or Y.1564 experience.
• Real ID and security clearance.
• Basic telecommunications or industry safety training.
