Senior Counsel, Coverage – Claim Center Counselor

Location: TX - Houston; support is provided primarily to the Houston office.

Annual base salary: $146,400–$241,600, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Serve as the primary legal resource for the claim center on insurance coverage matters.
• Prepare written legal coverage opinions and coverage advice for claim professionals and management.
• Advise on claim initiatives, compliance, regulatory inquiries, market conduct exams, claim-handling practices, contracts, and emerging legal trends.
• Research legal principles and precedents, identify risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Draft, negotiate, and execute legal documents while building relationships with internal and external clients.
• Collaborate with Claim Legal, Claims, Underwriting, and other business units; mentor less senior attorneys and support training for claim staff.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) where representation is required.
• At least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• The ideal candidate has 10 years of prior legal experience.
• Experience advising senior management on complex legal issues and communicating risk to internal or external customers.
