Sr. Underwriter - Marine/Yacht

Location: HQ - San Diego, California, United States

Salary: $80,000–$100,000 per year, plus target discretionary cash and restricted stock unit bonuses of 10% each.

What you will do

• Review and underwrite marine and yacht loan applications from initial and conditional approval through final clear-to-close decisions.
• Analyze personal and business tax returns, financial statements, cash flow, liquidity, global debt obligations, and debt-to-income ratios.
• Evaluate complex borrower structures, including self-employed individuals, business owners, trusts, and high-net-worth clients.
• Assess vessel information, collateral valuations, loan-to-value ratios, insurance requirements, and marine-specific risks.
• Identify and mitigate credit, collateral, fraud, and compliance risks while ensuring adherence to bank policies and regulatory requirements.
• Support junior underwriters, analysts, and loan operations staff, and collaborate with sales, operations, and management.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.
• 3–5+ years of underwriting experience, preferably in marine, yacht, recreational, consumer, mortgage, or specialty asset finance.
• Experience analyzing self-employed borrowers, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals.
• Strong knowledge of financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, credit risk assessment, collateral-based lending, and asset valuation.
• Ability to review K-1s, partnership returns, corporate returns, trust documentation, and complex income structures.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Familiarity with marine or yacht lending.
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
