What you will do
- Develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program in agronomic entomology.
- Study the biology, ecology, and management of economically important insect pests in dryland and irrigated agricultural systems.
- Establish a Montana Agricultural Experiment Station Hatch Project, secure extramural funding, and publish research.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers and advise students in entomology programs.
- Teach Integrated Pest Management and Insect Physiology, along with other courses aligned with expertise and program needs.
- Engage with agricultural producers, stakeholders, professional organizations, and interdisciplinary university partners.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in entomology or an appropriate related field by the time of appointment.
- Academic or professional training in agronomic entomology within agricultural systems.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in agronomic entomology research, teaching, and mentoring.
- Experience or potential for effective interdisciplinary collaboration on agricultural issues.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and compliance with Montana requirements for operating State or University vehicles.
Nice to have
- Ability or strong potential to secure extramural funding.
- Research, teaching, or mentoring excellence relevant to agronomic entomology.
- Experience engaging with agricultural producers, industry, agencies, or other stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring students from many backgrounds.
