TL;DR
ETL Engineer (Data Engineering): Building and maintaining reliable ETL/ELT pipelines that move approved data from source systems into the National Data Warehouse and analytics environments with an accent on data transformations, validation, monitoring, and documentation. Focus on troubleshooting pipeline failures, reconciling data discrepancies, supporting data mart refreshes, and transferring operational capability to Ministry of Health counterparts.
Location: Kampala, Uganda, with national and regional travel as required. Current work authorization in Uganda is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do
- Develop, test, deploy, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for approved source systems and National Data Warehouse products.
- Implement data transformations, validation rules, scheduling, exception handling, reconciliation, and automated alerting.
- Modernize fragile manual, file-based, and direct-database processes into approved and monitored data-exchange patterns.
- Maintain source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, pipeline documentation, logs, runbooks, and version-controlled code.
- Investigate pipeline failures, data discrepancies, delayed loads, and quality exceptions with source-system owners.
- Support data mart refreshes, dashboard and reporting extracts, peer reviews, release procedures, testing, and operational handover to Ministry of Health and DHI counterparts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems, statistics, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines, SQL scripts, and data transformations.
- Experience with relational databases, Python or another scripting language, version control, and scheduling or orchestration tools.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional fluency in English.
- Current authorization to work in Uganda is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with DHIS2, health data systems, interoperability standards, or data quality processes.
