Archaeological Field Technician

Location: St. Catharines, Canada; onsite work across southern Ontario

Projected compensation: $26.00/hour CAD

What you will do

• Participate in Stage 2 surveys, Stage 3 test excavations, and Stage 4 archaeological mitigations.
• Identify, collect, process, and interpret artifacts.
• Prepare field notes, sketches, photographs, and digital records.
• Excavate and screen soil while carrying and moving equipment and materials.
• Support Field Supervisors and Project Managers with daily field activities.
• Collaborate respectfully with Indigenous field representatives and follow health and safety procedures.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience or equivalent experience with physically demanding outdoor work.
• Ability to lift 30–50 lb, carry 20+ lb, perform repetitive tasks, and walk or hike up to 10 km per day.
• Willingness to work long field days in hot, cold, wet, and rugged conditions.
• Ability to travel daily to variable project locations across southern Ontario and report to designated meeting points.
• Ability to stay overnight for consecutive days; per diem and accommodation are provided.
• Strong teamwork, reliability, punctuality, communication skills, and a professional attitude. A valid Ontario G driver’s licence or reliable transportation is an asset.

Nice to have

• Completion of an archaeological field school.
• Undergraduate degree or ongoing studies in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Previous Ontario archaeological consulting experience covering Stages 2–4.
• Knowledge of Ontario artifact types.
• Ontario Archaeological Research License.
