Senior Scientist, Fragrances (Body Care) (Analytical Chemistry)

Location: Holmdel, New Jersey, USA; hybrid schedule with on-site work three days per week, one remote day, and an expected day in New York City

Salary: $90,000–$120,000 annual base salary, depending on experience and other hiring factors.

What you will do

• Perform fragrance extraction from consumer products using varied analytical techniques.
• Conduct GC/MS analysis for fragrance profiling and ingredient characterization.
• Reconstruct fragrance compositions using essential oils, aroma chemicals, synthetic materials, and specialty bases.
• Plan, execute, and interpret complex analytical studies supporting fragrance development projects.
• Generate analytical datasets, support AI-driven fragrance design initiatives, and contribute to intellectual property and innovation programs.
• Present findings to and collaborate with Perfumers, Marketing, Consumer Insights, and technical teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
• At least 5–7 years of analytical chemistry experience in fragrance, consumer goods, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or a related industry.
• Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting GC/MS instrumentation.
• Strong knowledge of fragrance composition, essential oils, aroma chemicals, and specialty bases.
• Ability to design scientific experiments, solve complex analytical challenges, manage multiple priorities, and work independently.
• Advanced data analysis and data management skills with strong written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with GC-O and Gerstel systems.
• Advanced analytical chemistry expertise within the fragrance industry.
• Experience supporting fragrance performance or sensory science programs.
• Knowledge of competitor technologies, patent landscapes, and emerging fragrance innovations.
