Senior Engineer - Substation Physical (Electrical Power Systems)

Location: Houston, Texas, United States. The role requires at least 25% travel; some commissioning focus areas may require up to 80% travel.

What you will do

• Mentor engineers, specialists, and technicians while serving as a technical expert in a designated focus area.
• Design and apply SEL equipment and engineered substation solutions.
• Research, innovate, and develop new technical solutions and processes.
• Review and approve scopes, budgets, schedules, designs, and project deliverables.
• Manage projects and support solution creation, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, operation, and customer training.
• Lead environmental, health, and safety activities, including training, investigations, reporting, and safe work practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an applicable discipline.
• 12+ years of experience and working knowledge of electric power systems or equivalent transferable industry experience.
• Expert knowledge in the selected focus area, with strong technical training, writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time.
• Ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities, and work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Background check results satisfactory to SEL and negative drug test results.

Nice to have

• Supervisory experience and experience with electrical utilities, consulting, or system integrators.
• Professional Engineer license.
• Experience with power systems, customers, and Vision or other project-management tracking software.
• Focus-area experience in automation, protection, commissioning, design, networking, security, studies, proposals, business development, project management, or process development.
• Knowledge of IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus, SCADA, PSSE, ETAP, RTDS, NERC/CIP, or NIST SP800 requirements.
