TL;DR
Sr. Engineer I (II) - Stability Studies (Power Systems): Performing power system and dynamic stability analyses for New Service Requests, evaluating transmission reinforcements, and preparing technical reports with an accent on NERC and RFC compliance, power system modeling, and reliability planning. Focus on maintaining power flow and dynamics cases, solving complex engineering problems, coordinating contractors, and developing innovative planning methods.

What you will do

  • Perform power system and dynamic stability analyses for New Service Requests and contribute to System Impact Study reports.
  • Evaluate transmission reinforcements needed to resolve reliability issues and coordinate their development with Transmission Owner staff.
  • Review project data and maintain power flow, dynamics, and individual project models used for analysis.
  • Manage multiple projects, coordinate contractors, and delegate, prioritize, and review their work.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations, and support business practice manual updates and stakeholder communications.
  • Represent PJM in industry committees and stakeholder groups while helping develop innovative planning methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least four years of applicable power systems experience.
  • Experience with power system software such as PSSE, TARA, and PSCAD for dynamic studies.
  • Knowledge of applicable NERC and IEEE standards.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and technical support skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to solve complex problems.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with PSSE library and user-written models and PSCAD models for synchronous and inverter-based generation, power electronic devices, HVDC, and FACTS.
  • Programming experience with Python, FORTRAN, or similar tools for developing and enhancing automation scripts.
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions.
  • Experience using PSS/e.
