Library Tech II

Location: On-site library work at hirify.global in Montana, United States

Salary: $21.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.

hirify.global’s Library provides collection access, cataloging, metadata, and processing services for physical and digital library materials.

What you will do

• Perform copy cataloging and create metadata for physical and digital library materials according to national standards.
• Assign subject headings, call numbers, controlled vocabularies, and semantic topics.
• Import bibliographic records from OCLC into Alma and maintain the library’s unified resource management database.
• Manipulate large data files, add local information, and perform quality control.
• Collaborate with library staff and student employees on record creation, access, and special projects.
• Prepare monthly statistics and activity reports and monitor developments in metadata, linked data, and the Semantic Web.

Requirements

• Two years of post-secondary education.
• Competence with personal computers, Microsoft Office 365, databases, spreadsheets, email, internet tools, and relational databases.
• Ability to follow established procedures and perform accurate, detail-oriented work.
• Ability to shelve and retrieve materials from shelves up to 11 feet high, handle semi-heavy books, and push loaded book trucks.
• Ability to work at computer terminals for at least 3–4 hours per day and in a dusty environment.
• Strong organizational, time-management, interpersonal, independent-work, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• Experience working in an academic library.
• Knowledge of electronic databases, online catalogs, and discovery services.
• Experience with AACR2, RDA, MARC, MODS, OCLC Connexion, Alma, LCSH, and MarcEdit.
• Experience with specialty cataloging such as music, serials, or maps.
• Knowledge of controlled vocabularies including LCSH, TGM, AAT, MeSH, and BISAC.
