Civil Rights Investigator

What you will do

• Document and assess reports of protected-class discrimination and harassment, including determining jurisdiction with the Title IX Coordinator.
• Plan and conduct prompt, thorough, impartial investigations through formal and informal resolution processes.
• Conduct trauma-informed interviews, collect and evaluate evidence, and apply relevant laws, policies, and timelines.
• Prepare detailed factual findings reports using a preponderance-of-the-evidence standard and serve as an unbiased decisionmaker in eligible non-Title IX cases.
• Coordinate interim, supportive, and other intervention measures with the Director and Case Managers.
• Maintain case records and collaborate with campus offices on civil rights education, training, outreach, and process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, criminal justice, human resources, civil rights law and policy, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• Experience writing, analyzing, summarizing, and presenting data clearly and supportably.
• Experience managing a high-volume caseload with competing deadlines and priorities.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, partnership-building, interview, judgment, organization, and time-management skills.
• Trauma-informed interviewing skills and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Maxient and Filevine is preferred.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree such as an M.S.W., J.D., or M.Ed. in a related field.
• Experience with mediation, informal resolution agreements, higher education populations, or high-conflict civil rights and disciplinary matters.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local equal opportunity, civil rights, nondiscrimination, and higher education laws, including FERPA, Clery Act, VAWA, Title IX, ADA, and Section 504.
• Prior civil-rights investigator training from a nationally recognized organization such as ATIXA, EEOC, NACUA, or NCCOP.
