BI Analyst - Semantic Layer (Automotive)

Location: Remote, must be located in the Chicago area; onsite interviews may be required. For US-based positions, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $104,100–$130,150 base salary per year, with potential bonus and/or equity depending on level and role.

What you will do

• Author and maintain metric, dimension, hierarchy, and semantic-layer definitions as code using SQL, YAML, or the adopted modeling language.
• Own the full metric lifecycle, including drafting, review, certification, publication, versioned change control, and deprecation.
• Maintain Atlan glossary definitions, business context, ownership tags, and consistency across the semantic layer, reporting tools, and catalog.
• Partner with business stakeholders, department heads, analysts, data engineering, product, marketing, and sales teams to align KPI definitions and resolve disputes.
• Define canonical taxonomies and hierarchy logic for fragmented product and vehicle data.
• Drive data literacy through office hours, onboarding, enablement content, and governance adoption scorecards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence, or data governance with hands-on SQL experience.
• Hands-on experience authoring and maintaining models in a semantic or metrics layer tool such as dbt Semantic Layer/MetricFlow, LookML, Cube, Omni, AtScale, or a comparable platform.
• Strong dimensional modeling knowledge, including star schemas, slowly changing dimensions, and join fan-out risks.
• Experience running metric or glossary governance with business stakeholders and managing content in Atlan, Collibra, Alation, or a similar data catalog.
• Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, training, and enablement skills.

Nice to have

• Experience owning content and definitions in Tableau or another enterprise BI tool.
• Experience building canonical taxonomies or classification systems from inconsistent source data.
• Experience aligning KPIs across marketing, sales, or product teams.
• Experience building a data governance or semantic-layer program from zero to one.
