API Platform Owner (AI)

Location: HQ - San Diego, California, United States

Salary: $150,000-$170,000 per year, plus target annual discretionary cash and restricted stock unit bonuses of 10% each.

What you will do

• Lead governance and lifecycle management for REST/SOAP APIs, LLM proxies, and MCP servers on Apigee X.
• Define API and AI consumption strategies covering model routing, token-aware rate limiting, semantic caching, and LLM cost attribution.
• Establish MCP authentication, auditing, rate-limiting, and policy-enforcement patterns for internal agents and external consumers.
• Implement AI safety controls for prompt injection, PII exposure, jailbreaks, data exfiltration, and response filtering.
• Design scalable microservices and agent-to-tool architectures, while improving performance, reliability, observability, and SLO management.
• Manage team development and resources across Apigee modernization and AI gateway initiatives, contributing hands-on when required.

Requirements

• 5+ years of enterprise API architecture experience, including at least 1 year with Apigee X or another AI-capable gateway.
• Production experience designing, deploying, or governing LLM integrations with providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Vertex AI, or AWS Bedrock.
• Working knowledge of MCP server patterns, tool and resource exposure, transport options, and authentication models.
• Advanced knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, mTLS, JWT, API security, microservices, and Google Cloud architecture.
• Experience with Python, Java, or Node and the ability to modify Apigee policy XML/JavaScript and prototype LLM or MCP code.
• Experience designing CI/CD pipelines and promotion gates for API proxies, policy artifacts, and AI-impacting changes.

Nice to have

• Financial services technology experience with BSA, GLBA, CCPA, model risk management, or GenAI compliance.
• Apigee X AI/ML proxy, Model Armor, Vertex AI, and production MCP server experience.
• DevOps and infrastructure-as-code expertise with Terraform, Apigee deployment tooling, or GitHub Actions.
• Apigee, Google Cloud, cloud architecture, TOGAF, or responsible AI certifications.
