TL;DR
Field Wildlife or Project Biologist (Biological Surveys/ArcGIS): Conducting biological surveys, preparing reports, tracking data, and monitoring construction activities for regulatory compliance with an accent on wildlife biology, botany, wetland ecology, and California fieldwork. Focus on making in-field decisions, mapping biological resources with ArcGIS and GPS, and completing surveys in demanding outdoor environments.

Location: Hybrid role based in or near Victorville, Barstow, Palmdale, Lancaster, or the northern and eastern regions of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, or Riverside, California; frequent field travel is required.

Salary: $35–$50 per hour, based on training, duties, and project type.

What you will do

  • Conduct general and focused biological resource surveys, including nest surveys and monitoring.
  • Prepare reports, track and analyze data, and complete web-based regulatory reporting.
  • Monitor construction and habitat restoration activities for biological and regulatory compliance.
  • Use ArcGIS and GPS equipment to map biological resources and support conservation planning.
  • Make field-based decisions and communicate findings orally and in writing.
  • Follow company safety rules, OSHA requirements, and confidentiality standards while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, wetland science, plant ecology, or a related field.
  • 1–6 years of professional experience in biological surveys, biological or construction monitoring, or related fieldwork.
  • Experience with biological resources in Southern and/or Central California, with strength in botany, wildlife biology, or wetland ecology.
  • Basic understanding of FESA, CESA, CEQA, and NEPA, plus training or experience with ArcGIS and GPS technologies.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, advanced Microsoft Office skills, and the ability to complete and maintain 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with annual refreshers.
  • Ability to work outdoors across large and difficult terrain, travel frequently, work variable or overnight shifts, and handle physically demanding conditions.

Nice to have

  • Experience with desert tortoise, Arroyo toad, red-legged frog, burrowing owl, California gnatcatcher, least Bell’s vireo, desert kit fox, Mohave ground squirrel, kangaroo rat species, or other special-status species.
  • Experience with plants and wildlife on Catalina Island or in the Coastal Zone.
  • Experience with nest monitoring, construction compliance, habitat restoration, or relevant USFWS and CDFW permits.
