Senior Water Resources Planning Engineer

Location: Denver or Loveland, Colorado office; hybrid schedule with up to 40% remote work

Salary: $128,260–$188,601 annually, depending on qualifications, plus potential annual bonuses.

What you will do

• Serve as Project Manager or Technical Lead for Colorado water resources planning projects, including long-range supply plans, water rights evaluations, hydrologic analyses, and scenario-based planning.
• Support water rights applications, change cases, augmentation plans, substitute supply plans, conjunctive use operations, and related engineering analyses.
• Develop quantitative planning and decision-support models for surface water and integrated surface water–groundwater systems.
• Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, and expert-support documentation for planning studies, regulatory reviews, and legal proceedings.
• Support proposals, client meetings, business development, and relationships with water utilities, agencies, and other Colorado stakeholders.
• Supervise and mentor engineers, planners, and analysts while coordinating multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer license in Colorado, or the ability to obtain it through comity within a defined timeframe.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in water resources planning and/or water rights analysis.
• Demonstrated experience with Colorado’s prior appropriation system and water rights administration.
• Experience with scopes, schedules, budgets, technical writing, presentations, and independent project execution.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and legal counsel on water rights matters.

Nice to have

• Experience with Colorado municipal or regional water providers, basin roundtables, Colorado Water Plan initiatives, or state agencies.
• Modeling experience with StateMod, RiverWare, StateCU, MODFLOW, or equivalent tools.
• Experience with groundwater flow, stream–aquifer interaction, well depletion, lagged response, scenario-based, and risk-informed planning.
• Existing professional relationships within the Colorado water community.
• Advanced degree.
