Large Shapes Specialist (Casting)

Location: Cortland, New York, USA; onsite

Salary: $19.87–$26.73 per hour, plus benefits

What you will do

• Operate hand-controlled mechanisms and casting equipment to pour and regulate refractory materials into molds.
• Prepare, mix, cast, fire, and finish refractory shapes according to work orders and prescribed recipes.
• Measure molds, ingredients, temperatures, and material characteristics to meet drawing specifications.
• Inspect molds and finished shapes for cleanliness, strength, surface quality, integrity, and dimensional accuracy.
• Perform grinding and finishing quality-control procedures and reject out-of-tolerance molds.
• Safely operate cranes, forklifts, overhead cranes, and electric pallet jacks.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, TASC, or an equivalent combination of education and life experience.
• Preferred: at least one year of experience with refractory shapes or concrete mixing, casting, firing, finishing, and work orders.
• Ability to read work orders, safety rules, operating instructions, procedures, and basic drawings.
• Basic mechanical and mathematical skills, including measurements and material calculations.
• Ability to understand spatial reasoning, heat conduction, velocity, gravity, force, and cause-and-effect relationships.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, perform repetitive hand movements, lift or move items over 50 pounds, and wear required protective equipment.
