Public Safety Officer - Part Time

Location: Tufts Medical Center, Massachusetts; onsite hospital-based role

Pay range: $21.53–$26.91 per hour

What you will do

• Lead assigned public safety officers and staff during daily operations, shifts, emergencies, and disasters.
• Patrol hospital buildings and grounds, respond to calls, alarms, crises, violent-patient incidents, and unauthorized access.
• Identify and mitigate safety hazards, security vulnerabilities, policy violations, and access-control issues.
• Document incidents, conduct investigations and interviews, review video, and secure evidence.
• Provide de-escalation, crisis intervention, customer service, and training for staff and hospital community members.
• Enforce Massachusetts criminal law, make arrests, and support booking, court prosecution, searches, and seizures when licensed as a Special State Police Officer.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Criminal Justice or a related area with two years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent with three years of relevant experience.
• Valid state-issued driver's license.
• IAHSS Basic, Advanced, and Supervisory Healthcare Security Officer certifications required within six months of hire.
• Proficient English communication, reading, and writing skills required.
• Basic computer skills, sound judgment in dangerous situations, physical ability to perform the duties, and ability to work independently or on a team.
• Ability to work long, irregular, and overnight hours, including potential overtime and holdovers; must be able to stand or walk for up to eight hours, climb stairs, and lift 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Associate degree in Criminal Justice or a related area.
• Two years of healthcare security experience.
• De-escalation, crisis response, CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, or Nasal Naloxone certification.
• Law enforcement training or Police Academy graduation and POST Certification from Massachusetts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms.
