TL;DR
Spring 2027 Mechanical Engineering Co-op (Robotics) (SolidWorks/electromechanical systems): Designing, prototyping, testing, and introducing mechanical components and electromechanical systems into production with an accent on robust product design, documentation, and cross-functional system integration. Focus on verifying prototype systems, specifying motors and sensors, applying DFM to sheet metal and machined parts, and supporting systems deployed at customer sites.

Location: Onsite at the Bedford, Massachusetts office. The co-op runs approximately January through June 2027, with flexible dates.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical parts, assemblies, components, and systems according to system and subsystem requirements.
  • Transform tested concepts into robust product designs with engineering, operations, customers, and contract manufacturers.
  • Release designs in SolidWorks and create bills of material, assembly drawings, maintenance instructions, and other production documentation.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, machinists, contract manufacturers, and shippers to ensure electromechanical systems are assembled and delivered correctly.
  • Perform testing and verification of prototype systems and support systems deployed at customer sites.
  • Build prototypes using rapid prototyping tools, including 3D printers, laser cutters, mills, and lathes.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, including basic design principles, sheet metal, and FEA.
  • Experience with prototyping tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers, mills, and lathes.
  • Ability to specify motors, sensors, and off-the-shelf parts.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and mechanisms, plus DFM experience with sheet metal, weldments, and machined parts.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; curiosity, independence, and eagerness to learn.
