Extension Agent – 4-H Youth Development – Lewis and Clark County (4-H Youth Development): Developing, implementing, and evaluating research-based youth and volunteer education programs in Lewis and Clark County with an accent on community needs assessment, group leadership, and collaborative outreach. Focus on leading the county 4-H program, engaging volunteers, organizing county events and summer camp, and adapting programming to local community needs.

Location: Helena, Montana, United States. The role includes frequent travel throughout Lewis and Clark County, occasional travel throughout Montana, and work during evenings and weekends as required by community needs.

Salary: $51,660 minimum with a bachelor's degree; $58,660 minimum with a master's degree. Starting salary is determined by education and prior experience.

What you will do

  • Assess community needs and develop, implement, facilitate, and evaluate research-based 4-H Youth Development programs.
  • Lead planning and evaluation of the Lewis and Clark County 4-H program to support positive youth development and volunteer engagement.
  • Build collaborative relationships with Extension agents, specialists, county commissioners, community organizations, and local agencies.
  • Plan and deliver interdisciplinary MSU Extension programming with county and Extension staff.
  • Coordinate county events including the Lewis and Clark County 4-H Fair and 4-H Summer Camp.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in youth development, education, or a related field.
  • Ability to lead groups, assess community needs, and organize, teach, and evaluate effective programs.
  • Ability to provide leadership for programming serving youth, adults, and volunteers.
  • Effective collaboration and communication with diverse individuals, groups, and community organizations.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and eligibility to operate State or University vehicles are required.
  • A valid out-of-state driver’s license must be replaced with a Montana driver’s license within 60 days of hire.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree.
  • Extension experience or knowledge of the Extension education model.
  • Understanding of youth and adult learning principles in community-based education and outreach.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and developing volunteers.
  • Experience facilitating groups and helping them find constructive solutions to local issues.
