What you will do
- Stand wheel, anchor, gangway, and roving watches while maintaining alertness and following navigational steering orders.
- Perform deck maintenance, repairs, sanitation, and upkeep across the ship’s hull, decks, superstructure, cargo gear, boats, and safety equipment.
- Carry out chipping, scraping, soundings, priming, painting, and cleaning activities.
- Learn and use emergency, lifesaving, damage-control, and safety equipment.
- Launch lifesaving equipment, conduct ship security inspections, and perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- High school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Previous experience aboard ocean or inland vessels.
- Active AB Special license or higher.
- USCG-approved Adult CPR, Basic First Aid completed within the last 12 months, current CPR, TWIC, Qualified Lifeboatman, and STCW with RFPNW endorsement.
- Current USCG medical certification and passport.
- Ability to climb ladders, move through hatches and confined spaces, wear personal protective equipment, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must pass a USCG/DOT drug test before employment and participate in random drug and alcohol testing.

- Knowledge of maintaining training and maintenance programs for deck cadets.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects and exert moderate force.
