Specialist, Automation & Commissioning (SCADA/PLC)

Location: Independence, Kansas, with additional locations in Wichita and Shawnee; travel greater than 75% by automobile and plane is required.

What you will do

• Lead and oversee commissioning activities for major natural gas capital projects from initial design through in-service.
• Program, modify, audit, test, and debug PLCs, flow computers, EFM, SCADA, and HMI systems.
• Configure process control, safety instrumented, fire and gas, and engine control systems, including hardware specifications, code, and graphics.
• Develop project scopes, equipment specifications, estimates, design justifications, and technical standards.
• Audit fabrication shops and onsite installations for compliance with engineering designs and specifications.
• Provide technical guidance to operations, engineering, IT, and management while supporting safety, reliability, optimization, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• Associate degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent experience with automated control systems.
• At least 5 years of experience with natural gas facilities, including gas measurement, gas quality, pressure and flow control, compressor station maintenance, and control systems.
• Experience reading and directing implementation of electrical and instrumentation drawings, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.
• Understanding of reciprocating and turbine engines, flow control, gas quality, pipeline operations, maintenance, and construction practices.
• Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, organization, independent working ability, and effective communication.
• Valid driver’s license, insurability, willingness to travel more than 75%, work extended hours and overtime, and work outdoors in varied weather conditions are required.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering with a focus on controls or automation.
• Background in communication systems, electronics, compressor station maintenance, electronic measurement, PLCs, and SCADA equipment used in natural gas transmission.
