TL;DR
Software Developer II (IoT/Embedded) (C/Python/FreeRTOS): Developing embedded software and connected IoT solutions for smart water products with an accent on hardware-software integration, real-time operating systems, and board bring-up. Focus on designing hardware drivers, debugging embedded systems with laboratory tools, implementing automated and system testing, and managing product releases.
Location: Hybrid role based in Vernon, BC, Canada; office work is required as needed. Travel may be required up to 10%.
Salary: CAD 75,000–90,000 yearly, plus a bonus plan.

What you will do
- Gather software requirements with product management and independently research solutions where needed.
- Design and document embedded software architectures, specifications, state diagrams, and operational sequences.
- Design and implement software primarily in C, along with tooling in Python, JavaScript, and shell scripts.
- Integrate third-party and open-source software while verifying quality standards.
- Test, troubleshoot, and debug embedded software, hardware interactions, and supporting scripts.
- Lead software work across multidisciplinary IoT projects, manage product releases, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technologist diploma with equivalent experience in electrical, computer, electronics, mechatronics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of intermediate-to-senior software engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of software development fundamentals, including shell scripting, version control, configuration management, continuous integration, and automated testing.
- Experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, bare-metal development, board bring-up, and hardware driver implementation.
- Ability to read schematics and component datasheets and debug hardware/software interactions using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
- Employment eligibility and successful completion of criminal record checks and required pre-employment testing are mandatory.
