State-Based Monitoring and Research Assistants (Agricultural Research and MERL): Conducting data validation, primary data collection, market information gathering, and research assignments across selected Nigerian states with an accent on field verification, agricultural market monitoring, and activity-based reporting. Focus on conducting in-person spot checks, supporting surveys and commissioned studies, collecting input and produce prices, and documenting outputs with supporting evidence.
Location: Must work from the state of residence in Nigeria: Jigawa, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, Oyo, or Ekiti. The role includes in-person field visits to markets, programme activities, and partner locations.

What you will do
- Review programme information, intervention updates, results chains, indicators, and MERL guidelines.
- Attend onboarding, orientation, and supplementary training.
- Conduct data validation, verification, and spot checks through in-person field visits.
- Support data collection for commissioned studies and surveys.
- Collect input and produce price information from predetermined markets.
- Attend programme events and submit activity-based and month-end reports with supporting evidence.
Requirements
- Degree in agriculture, social sciences, or a related field.
- Strong data collection skills and intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including data entry, validation checks, and preliminary pivot table analysis.
- Intermediate Microsoft Word skills for preparing activity-based and monthly reports.
- Ability to speak and write English and the local languages of the assigned state.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Functional laptop and Android mobile phone.

- Engagement is on a call-down basis, with specific monthly work orders issued as needs arise.
- Assignment period: 16 September 2026 to 31 March 2027, with a maximum level of effort of 20 days per month.
