Auxiliary Animal Care Technician

Location: hirify.global Okanagan Campus, Kelowna, BC, Canada; onsite role

Salary: CAD 26.89–30.83 per hour

What you will do

• Provide daily husbandry, handling, restraint, health, behavior, welfare surveillance, food, water, clean housing, and enrichment for laboratory animals.
• Perform health checks, administer medications according to written instructions, record observations, and maintain animal data.
• Change cages, operate cage-washing and sterilization equipment, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the facility.
• Maintain facility equipment, monitor environmental conditions, and recommend adjustments to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
• Assist with biological sample collection, anesthesia, surgical and other procedures under direct supervision.
• Manage inventory, support CCAC recommendations and standards, respond to emergencies, and contribute to SOP and workflow improvements.

Requirements

• Completion of secondary school or Grade 12 equivalent; up to six months of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to perform standard technical and husbandry procedures involving common laboratory animal species.
• Ability to operate and maintain instrumentation and equipment used in an animal facility.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills.
• Ability to meet repetitive physical requirements and lift up to 20 kg.
• Commitment to respecting diverse perspectives and developing knowledge and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Nice to have

• Registered Lab Animal Technician certification through CALAS/AALAS.
• Animal Health Technology degree.
