Wireless Systems Research Engineer, Levels III, IV, Sr I (wireless networking): Conducting basic and applied research on wireless networks by designing, implementing, testing, and supporting next-generation wireless networking solutions with an accent on network architecture, cellular systems, interoperability, and security. Focus on configuring complex research networks, diagnosing hardware and software issues, performing security assessments, developing disaster recovery plans, and supporting sponsor reporting.
Location: Bryan, Texas; U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency required. The role includes travel to other campuses, agencies, vendors, and domestic or international locations, as well as occasional outdoor and out-of-hours work.

What you will do
- Conduct basic and applied research on wireless networks and evaluate technical approaches, equipment, protocols, designs, and tools.
- Design, document, configure, install, and test research networks, including integration and interoperability testing.
- Develop network security measures, configuration backups, data protection methods, and disaster recovery plans.
- Provide Tier I, Tier II, and some Tier III support, including diagnostics and repair of complex hardware and software issues.
- Collect technical data, prepare project reports and presentations, and support sponsor updates and industry symposia.
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, and train graduate assistants and student technicians.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six, eight, or nine years of wireless networking or related experience, depending on the level.
- Ability to obtain a Secret-level U.S. security clearance and a U.S. passport.
- U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency is required.
- Knowledge of LANs, Layer 2 switching, Wi-Fi, VLANs, spanning tree, IP networking, Layer 3 switching and routing, and cellular networking.
- Ability to install and remove servers, switches, radios, and antennas; climb ladders; and work in office and occasional outdoor environments.
Nice to have
- Experience with DHCP, NTP, DNS, SNMP, and logging.
- Networking, network security, Juniper, Cisco, CBRS CPI, or 4G/5G wireless certifications.
- Experience with mentoring, vendor relations, requirements analysis, statements of work, project management, and service delivery.
