Assistant Professor Biology (Histology, Microbiology or Environmental Biology)

Location: Prairie View, Texas, United States; full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning in Fall 2026.

What you will do

• Teach General Biology I and II lecture and laboratory courses or related biology courses for undergraduate majors.
• Advise, mentor, and supervise students through degree planning, student organizations, undergraduate research, internships, and departmental activities.
• Conduct and publish scholarly research and develop a competitive undergraduate research program.
• Identify and pursue external funding opportunities, including grant proposals and research program support.
• Build partnerships with two-year colleges, transfer institutions, and community organizations to support enrollment, workforce development, and career pathways.
• Participate in departmental and college-wide committees, assessment projects, meetings, office hours, and professional development.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biology, Biological Sciences, or a related biological field completed before appointment.
• At least two years of full-time undergraduate teaching experience in General Biology.
• Ability to teach two of the following: General Biology, Histology, Microbiology, or Environmental Biology.
• Experience designing and implementing online courses and virtual summer bridge programs.
• Demonstrated ability to use educational technology, student-centered instruction, and Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences.
• Knowledge of assessment practices and accreditation requirements, including SACSCOC, plus strong writing, communication, collaboration, and grant-development skills.

Nice to have

• Post-doctoral research experience.
• Three or more years of undergraduate teaching experience.
• At least two years of experience creating budgets and writing or managing grants.
• Proven record or strong potential for obtaining external research funding.
• Scholarship and publications in higher-tier journals relevant to the field.
